It is difficult to decide whether art reflects life or vice versa when observing Carrie Cameron and her work. Her appreciation of beauty has materialized in various mediums in both her art and her daily life. Carrie’s painting technique is 3-D oil sculpture. Her work reflects her unique view of the complex beauty in her world. As a “Reflectionist” painter, her creations embrace the feelings and the fluidity of the moment. Her extensive travels to Europe, living in Mexico for many years and now residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico, provide limitless inspiration. Carrie lists the works of Cezanne and Van Gogh as major influences, as well as her close friend and mentor, JD Miller, of Samuel Lynn Gallery, Dallas, Texas. She credits instructor and master colorist, Liz Richardson, a member of the Royal Academy of London, integral in developing her style.

ABOUT OIL SCULPTING:

Each painting was created in the 3-D oil sculpting technique. The foundation is developed using traditional oil painting techniques. The sculptural sections of the work are created with a palette knife and are formed with pure archival quality oil paint. Once applied, the oil forms a thin “skin” to which a layer of glaze is applied forming a special coating that protects the paint while giving the sculpted areas the appearance of hand-blown glass. After a period of six to twelve months, a tough outer layer forms that is very durable. The inside of the heavily sculpted sections dry infinitesimally slowly, thereafter becoming fully dry after many years

 

THE REFLECTIONIST MOVEMENT:

As the impressionists strove to capture the experience of light and record how they saw it, Reflectionist artists strive to capture the “now” and the entire feeling of the experience, capturing it on canvas.

COCK OF THE WALK DESIGNS:

In 2010, Carrie changed her life forever when she decided to move to Mexico and start over after some very trying times in her life. “It was the most selfish thing I had ever done in my life but was best for me”. Soon she was designing boots and met an amazing artisan who had been trained by his father to make handmade boots. Now over 13 years later, they are still working together to create the most incredible custom leather goods including boots, mules, corsets and more.

In 2012 Carrie’s latest art gallery opened in the magical town in the heart of Mexico and is

still going strong today. The gallery is housed in a 500+ year old building on the most

iconic street in town, Calle Aldama.

 

As Carrie always says, “I love my life” and that still holds true today.
